Heaven Adores You came about over many years. I wanted to build on the love that the fans had for Elliott. I wanted to do something that honored his contributions to the music scene, to the global community, and to my own personal journey. The circumstances around Elliott’s death created a very tight circle amongst his friends. Everyone else seemed to want to pry into the sensational darkness surrounding his death.
What if we could make something about the life and music of Elliott Smith, instead of just focusing on his death? If we could make something that looked at his incredible talent as an accomplished musician and poet, instead of his struggles exacerbated by well-deserved fame? What if we could make something where Elliott was able to narrate the journey of his life and have his friends support his incredible story?
Heaven Adores You aims to be just that: A visual, melodic love letter of sorts to a musical genius, in the environments that he knew best: Portland, New York, and Los Angeles. By having Elliott guide us himself, via recorded conversations and interviews, I am hopeful that he can tell his own story once and for all, surrounded by the people who loved him dearly.
Good riddance, asshole!
The news that New Found Glory are now a four-piece is still fresh news, but the reasoning why has been revealed today. It appears that it’s all down hill from here as their guitarist, Steve Klein, has been charged for “possession of child pornography.” From what I’ve read, it seems as though he was talking to a girl on a webcam, and he was not aware that she was under the age of 18. While I don’t know the entire circumstances, I hope that he is innocent and is being honest, however, I don’t know how far this goes. Hopefully this will be an allegation that is false, and he can rejoin the band later down the line, until then, seeing New Found Glory as a four-piece just doesn’t feel right.
What the hell!? Why does the spawn of Billy Ray Cyrus get to collaborate with such a talented band? It’s moments like this when I realize that life truly isn’t fair. I think it would have been funny in an ironic way had they sang one of her songs instead. I can also almost guarantee that 95% of the audience members who are fans of Miley have never heard the song, let alone the band.
The Echo Nest’s Paul Lamere has put together data showing each state in the United State’s favorite band. You can check out all the data here and a brief explanation of how below after the jump.
For this study, I sampled the listening preferences of about a quarter million listeners that have a zip code associated with their account. update: Listener data is drawn from a variety of music streaming services that are powered by The Echo Nest. I aggregated these listeners into regions (state, regional and all-US). To compare regions I look at the top-N most popular artists based upon listener plays in each region and look for artists that have a substantial change in rank between the two regions. These artists are the artists that define the taste for the region.
No thanks Haim, I think I’ll pass.
